Downtown Manhattan Pics

If you roll in Manhattan you know that the downtown area has a lot of spots that are great for skating at any time during the day. One of the spots that is most popular, due to it's revival early in the year, are the marble ledges on Wall Street and Water Street. The ledges were skate blocked for a long time but the New York rollers could not resist this almost perfect spot. The ledges are usually skateable at anytime during the weekend. During the week though, we suggest skating this spot after 6pm. Below are some pictures of the ledges provided by Chris Cofer of Evotek Media Group. Thanks Chris.

Friday Night Wall Street Session

The Holidays have brought us many gifts. So why not show them off? On December 26th, many Brooklyn locals sported their newly received gifts and finished off their day of rolling with one of New York's unique skate spots. This particular spot is a 3 stair set that goes down hill and can be hit both ways. Located on Wall Street just about 2 blocks up from NY's infamous Marble Ledges. We were able to capture a few of the many great tricks that went down that night.

New NYC Edit Provided by Adonis Taylor

Manhattan from adonai on Vimeo.
"started this little project on T-day for my fam to see what i've been up to. After pulling teeth to find these clips its clear that i haven't been doing much skating, or much filming but here's a tad bit of me ranging from 2006-2008."

Ado produced a great edit making a lot of great changes from when he first showed me it. He also labeled each spot he's skating in the video so everyone can go and skate the same spots. This idea is something that I Roll NY would like to expand on. If you have any edits you'd like to see put up here send us a message via myspace. Check out his true miszou at Colombus Circle and his royale transfer at Union Square and give him major props because I believe he's the only one so far to have done both. He also does a sick a fishbrain at Monkey Ledges and yours Truly filmed his 540 gap.

Vibralux "On Top" Online Premiere Review

Update: Adam Johnson has been, "randomly putting up the real version, the screwed up version, etc. for 10 minutes to 5 hours at a time, just to keep kids looking for it" (be-mag messageboard). so if you're lucky you can catch it.

The one hour exclusive peak at the new Vibralux "On Top" video brought many surprises to say the least. Due to the concern of online viewers downloading the new video, Adam Johnson disabled the video from being downloaded from the host site, vimeo, and also added a bunch of filters, texts, and effects to make the viewing experience...well, unique. It's totally understandable that the effects were done to make downloading the video unworthy, but it also distracted from the video and slightly turned me off from the viewing. If you were able to look past the distractions though, you know that On Top looks like a great video. Haffey, Farmer, Broskow, and Bambrick each had sections that stood out amongst the rest of the team in my opinion. The online premiere started with a long list of titles that seemed to stay on the screen forever but there were some funny lines that made the wait worth it. The intro also includes clips from each rider including Fabiola DeSilva which took me by surprise. Farmer then starts the series of sections from each rider and it's a definite must see. Though, as mentioned above there were distractions that took away from his section. Farmer's clips were re-created on a practice rail and would go back and forth between p-rail footage and street footage. As well footage was zoomed in so not everything was visible. None the less some clips that stood out were his negative top acid to top acid on a down rail and zero spin negative top acid on a similar rail. Michael Garlinghouse follows next and his section was constantly cut off or paused by text. A lot of clean and smooth tricks were done along with funny lines such as "he's running while the song is talking about running. how cool" and "fuckin miszou bitch." Michael Collins is featured next and his section is mixed with older clips from KFC's Members Only to hint at the current tricks that we'll see in the new video. Brenton Wheeler's section was overlayed over text reading "Wrong Crowd" making it almost impossible to see his clips. The Falls section brings the video back to a normal pace where the clips are clearly visible and Haffey takes a bad fall on his chin on a rail. The fall section then segways into Don Bambrick's section, which at first I mistakend for Rob Thompson...because I'm an idiot. His section was displayed as a negative image and a phone conversation was dubbed over it. Though looking past the given distractions I could see all the huge gaps he was doing with ease, along with an innovative torque cess slide to drop and a huge bs backslide on a chest high ledge. Haffey then follows and the section is displayed fast forwarded and looped over a couple of times. From what I can tell Haffey was definitly doing some of the craziest lines, landing huge stair gaps and then doing a down rail with ease. As well as being played backwards, Haffey's "ender" of the section was replaced with a google maps display of what was done. Alex Broskow ends the rider sections with, from what i can tell, was a great display of skating. Lights were overlayed his section which actually seemed to add to the music synched to the editing. The outro and credits had a couple of clips from each time rider like the intro did as well as some funny B Roll. The online premiere was worth the viewing and was a huge tease to make the viewer itch to buy On Top. Screen Caps from the online premiere below.

Today was a good day

So..due to my many computer problems I decided to "sneak" back in to my Alma mater, Brooklyn college...yeah I know, amazing right? and abuse their editing lab. I spent my day from 12pm-8pm working on our coverage of Skeptic Media's Fair is Fair competition and the Valo 2.5 premiere that happened last weekend. Luckily I was able to finish both in the given time span so expect to see them shortly. I just have to tweak both up a bit for best internet quality. Shortly afterwards I met up with Evotek's, Adonis Taylor, shared some footage and watched some of Say Word 3. Montre Livingston murdered every obstacle put forth in front of him as expected and even had some clips at local NYC spots which was a nice touch. Afterwards I hopped on the bus and somehow made it home in 20 minutes which amazed me and added to the little joys from today. Stay tuned for both edits and more pictures from both events during the week.

Skeptic Media's Fair is Fair Competition Edit, Pictures and Overview

Let me start out by giving thanks to those people who helped I Roll NY make it out to the competition. Props to Charles aka Chucky G for providing the transportation for us and the horrible reggaeton music we had to endure during the trip. A huge thanks goes to Randy at Fresthetics. He has helped us with so much and also hooked us up with a crazy amount of stickers that we were able to give out at the product toss. Visit Fresthetics and show some love to one of rollerbladings supporters.
On to the competition...It was just nuts. Navin and the rest of Skeptic Media crew really handled their business and got a lot of people to turn out and a lot of major companies to show their support. I have never seen any competition where so many prizes were not only given away to each winner but also to the crowd. Can anyone say free ipod? not to mention all the wheels, clothes, bags, dvds, frames and everything else that was given away. You can see what I mean at the end of Skeptics official edit. We here at I Roll NY were just happy and proud to be apart of such a great event and also to see another NYC based company make it big. A lot of amazing tricks went down including Jeff Dalnas' fakie 720 miszou which was done so clean that you'll definitly have to look back on the clip in our edit and ask "how?" First place winner of the pro division, Franco Cammayo, definitly deserved the win lacing some of the most stylish and creative tricks on the spine and box. Below you can see our coverage of the competiton including some of the many sick tricks that went down and some of the products that we had available for sale at the event along with those who helped represent our company. Thanks to everyone who purchased a tee/key chain.

Skeptic Media's Fair is Fair Competition Presented by I Roll NY from Craig B. I ROLL NY on Vimeo.
Again, a big thanks goes to Skeptic for throwing a great competition and allowing us to be apart of it, my good friend Charles for helping us out with transportation and Randy for helping us out with our products.

Valo 2.5 Premiere in NYC Review

I was lucky enough to make it out to the Valo 2.5 premiere last night at the Haven Art Gallery in the Bronx and it was definitly worth the trip. The almost 2 hour train ride from Brooklyn definitly proved worthy when I was welcomed by almost every roller in the NYC area. There were at least 100 rollerbladers, including Austin Paz, Billy O'Niel and Nick Riggle, along with many supporters in the venue which was tucked away in an almost abandoned block. Besides the main premiere there were also showings of Skeptic Media's new video trailer, which should be out just in time for BitterCold, a viewing of the Last Man Standing DVD trailer, and The Truth II trailer.
Valo 2.5 definitly proved worthy of an NYC viewing. The filming, coverage, editing and music selection were all on point. Each section was greeted with a bunch of OOH'S and AHH'S from the crowd but one team rider's section stood out amongst the others and that would be Alex Broskow's section. I have to say that his section was highly impressive and definitly shocked the crowd. The video set up a great vibe which added to the crowds "buzz" from their drink/smoke of choice. After wards I stopped by shortly to the after party that was a mere two blocks away and got to hang out with everyone for a bit. The mood eventually died down and everyone seemed to be trying to sober up for their train ride home. All in all it was a great night in NYC. It was definitely a blessing to see a lot of New York rollers assembling together to show their love and support and to catch a free showing of a great dvd. Go and get your copy of Valo 2.5 as soon as you can. It's a definite must buy.
Pics will be up soon and an edit featuring some of Valo's team riders, clips from the video, and the crowd's reviews will be up soon. Thanks to Ray Mendez from noise maker media for setting up this whole event along with Havens Art Gallery for providing the facility.
